Course description:
We invite you to join former Governor of the Colombian state of Chocó and LWR International Policy Analyst Luis Murillo, LWR Public Policy Director Rebecca Phares, and Sal y Luz program Consultant C. John Hildebrand for a lively discussion of LWR's work in Public Policy and Advocacy, including an overview of LWR's advocacy work and a closer look at LWR's focus on Colombia through the Sal y Luz project.
Proverbs 13:8 challenges us to “speak for those who cannot speak.” Advocacy is a faith commitment to be a part of God’s plan for a just world - a world where each person's dignity and worth is valued. A world where everyone has a say in decisions that affect their lives. Lutheran World Relief has spoken for justice since the 1940s when LWR was among the first voices to urge the United States government to allow humanitarian aid into the American-controlled sector of Germany. Today, the Lutheran World Relief office of public policy works to challenge not only the symptoms, but the causes of injustice around the world.
In addition to acquainting participants with LWR's public policy and advocacy work, this Virtual University session will offer participants an overview of the opportunities available to them to advocate with Lutheran World Relief.
