Lutheran World Relief Responding to Indonesia Earthquake

Baltimore, May 27, 2006 —

Lutheran World Relief is responding to the devastating quake that hit Indonesia early Saturday, killing at least 3,000 people and injuring thousands of others.

 

LWR partner organizations in Indonesia are already providing emergency food and medical care to survivors. LWR staff and partners in Indonesia are assessing the situation to determine additional response.

 

The 6.2 magnitude quake hit central Java early Saturday morning, while many people were still sleeping. According to news reports, hospitals have been overwhelmed with injured survivors, and relief workers fear many more people may be trapped under rubble.
