Social Media Specialist - Baltimore, MD
The Social Media Specialist is responsible for overseeing and contributing recurring content to holistically support our constituents, promoting Lutheran World Relief’s brand, and developing a substantive, responsive presence in the social media sphere. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of social media tools and technologies, exceptional judgment, and a fanatical passion for blogging, micro-blogging and community participation leadership. As a member of the Marketing unit, the Social Media Specialist will develop dynamic relationships with our constituents, aligning unselfish service of their needs, wants and desires, with our organizational objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be the eyes and ears of our brand as if your own reputation depended on it.
- Build and maintain our content distribution network by way of social media channels.
- Manage regularly and timely participation in conversations that surround our content and brand, answer comments, be a mediator and schedule, coordinate and monitor staff participation.
- Identify threats and opportunities in user generated content surrounding our brand, report to appropriate parties.
- Create content for feeds and snippets in various social media sites.
- Schedule and organize multiple departments and staff to generate content on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.
- Conduct keyword research including cataloging and indexing target keyword phrases.
- Participate in social media, as yourself and white hat avatars, on our behalf.
- Optimize tags, on our feeds, sharing sites like YouTube/Flickr and search engines through creative & keyword optimization.
- Tag and title content, with an understanding of how the words chosen impact natural search traffic and rankings via recurrent optimized content
- Manage and track link building campaigns, coordinated with all facets of LWR’s web presence.
- Create and update daily, weekly and monthly reports
- Design, coordinate and implement short-term and long-term social media campaigns.
- Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising current and social media campaigns.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
- Deep commitment to Lutheran World Relief’s core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners
- Familiarity with Lutheranism, church structures, and church member motivations and sensitivities
- College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excels at research, possesses excellent writing skills and the ability to crank editorial and technical writing output without brooding
- Experience or training in advertising, PR, online marketing or similar field
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products
- Dedicated to blogging and use of Facebook
- Demonstrated creativity and documented immersion in social media
- Experience sourcing and managing content development and publishing
- Understanding of both the creative and analytical side of marketing
- Ability to identify threats and opportunities in user generated content
- Understanding of social media universe including YouTube, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Digg, Reddit, Flickr, Forums, Twitter, Wikis, blogs, etc. Possesses functional knowledge or some experience with HTML/CSS
- Knowledge of search engine optimization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work individually on a project or in a team environment
- Eager to meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility
- Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
- Ability to communicate results to management and in a fast paced environment
SUPERVISOR: Director for Marketing
INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Works closely with Communications Unit and Communications Project Coordinator. Frequent contact and collaboration with all units in External Relations, and relevant departments throughout LWR.
EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Daily interaction with U.S. constituency throughout social media sphere.
SALARY AND TERMS: Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience. This full-time position is in grade level 22. This position is an exempt position from the Fair Labor Standards Act. An excellent benefit package is offered.
