LWR URGES YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN COLOMBIA’S
DAYS OF PRAYER AND ACTION 2008
February 13, 2008
"But let Justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream" - Amos 5:24
SAVE THE DATE
Mark your calendars on April 27 and 28, 2008 for this year’s Days of Prayer and Action for Peace in Colombia. On April 27th, congregations across the United States and Canada will gather to pray and remember our sisters and brothers in Colombia who work for peace. On April 28th, advocates will go to their Members of Congress with concrete requests for how they can help create peace in Colombia. (for more background information, please visit www.peaceincolombia.org)
START PLANNING
There are a variety of ways your congregation can participate in Days of Prayer and Action 2008. Have a conversation with your pastor about some things your congregation could do on April 27th. Here are some ideas:
Hold a prayer service or vigil for peace in Colombia. Sample sermons, liturgy and prayers will be available soon.
- Invite a local speaker for an adult forum or bible study.
- Announce news of your events with an LWR bulletin insert.
Also, consider planning ahead for the day of action, April 28th:
Set up a meeting with your member of congress or a member of their staff.
- Hold a peace vigil or other event that includes your entire community.
- Find the contact information for your Member of Congress and call or write them. (Visit www.house.gov and www.senate.gov or call the capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121. We encourage you to call your Representative and both of your Senators)
