WHAT IS THE LWR FAIR TRADE COFFEE PROJECT?
Micah 6:8 calls us, as Christians, to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. The LWR Coffee Project helps Lutherans answer that call by improving the lives of small-scale farmers around the world.
The LWR Coffee Project helps close the gap between your church and the kinds of communities in which LWR works. By using Fair Trade coffee and other Fair Trade products in your church and home, you guarantee farmers earn enough income to feed their families, educate their children, seek medical care and improve their communities.
Lutheran World Relief partners with Equal Exchange, a worker-owned coffee company that follows Fair Trade standards on 100% of their products, making it easy for Lutherans to use, buy and sell Fair Trade coffee.
Here’s how it works:
- Through the LWR Coffee Project, Equal Exchange offers Lutheran congregations and individuals wholesale prices on Fair Trade coffee, tea, cocoa, sugar and snacks.
- Lutheran congregations and individuals buy Fair Trade products through the LWR Coffee Project to use during fellowship hour, sell in their congregations and use in their homes and offices.
- Purchasing Fair Trade coffee creates a market that allows small-scale farmers to earn a fair price, improve their communities and access affordable credit.
- Lutheran World Relief receives a $.20/lb donation for all coffee, tea, cocoa, sugar and snacks sold through the LWR Coffee Project for the LWR Small Farmer Fund.
Put your faith into action through the LWR Coffee Project!
