Many of the members of the Kilimanjaro Native Cooperative Union that grows Tanzanian Jubilee are Lutheran. The Northern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania relies heavily on coffee farmers to support its ministry. Lutheran dispensaries like this one near Lyamungu are not able to keep necessary medicines in stock or pay the staff when coffee farmers can't afford to pay their medical bills. "The dispensary depends on what patients pay to pay staff salaries—we are behind the government salary scale by three years," says Dr. Onesmo Jackson Mosi, the doctor in charge.
